I am not referring to the publishing house.
Recently, I discovered a restaurant along Kalayaan Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City that serves delicious authentic Filipino dishes. Diners can take their pick of favorite dishes from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The restaurant’s name is Adarna Food & Culture. It’s a cozy place that gives a homey ambiance while you’re dining. The whole concept is very Filipino, like a home, and the place looks like a restored old stone house. You can also dine alfresco, by the fountain. Interesting memorabilia and other collections adorn the main dining room and the function rooms. Customers also get a treat from the sari-sari store (Choices are chocnut, white rabbit candy, chocolate coin, cigarette, and many other goodies available in a sari-sari store). It gives an exciting feel, like you’re a child again visiting your suking sari-sari sa may kanto.
One of the dishes served at the resto. Pinoy Pasta — it has chorizo instead of ham or hotdog.
A Muslim dish from Mindanao — Piassok. It is cooked in smoked coconut milk. The meat is so tender you won’t need a knife.
Different angels of the smaller dining area — perfect place to have coffee with friends. The sari-sari store is also located in this area.
Sherma & I, taking turns posing at the main dining hall.

Chorizo, ham or hotdog! And you call that Pinoy pasta?
Hek hek hek! Pinoy pasta is with ketchup! hak hak hak!
Oist, try yung ginatang pasta. Yan ang tunay na Pinoy. I tried it once with adobong Ilokano saluyot and it was perfect, parang spaghetti aux epinards!

surname ba yun?
Salve: Hi, wei vines!
Nope, hindi surname yung Adarna. I think it’s a cultural (literature) reference.
THank you for dropping by.

I want to try the Piassok. How’s the price range kapatid? Baka naman lumilipad parang ang Adarna.
Salve: Mura lang yung Piassok, mare. Less than 200 pesos. Pwedeng 2-3 people ang mag-share.

Try the tagliatelle con spinaci but at your own risk mare!
Seriously speaking tho, it should work. Most pasta sauce are (dairy) cream based. And why not coconut cream? It should even be more healthy and a good replacement of the famous olive oil. If you can add some herbs to overcome the usual gata-odor, hmmmm, çes’t bon!
La, try mo mare at yun a lulutuin natin pagdatingko hehehe

Never mind mare. Try ninyo muna ni Sherma. If Mercury drug sales go up para sa sakit ng tiyan, huwag na lang hehehe!
Bon appétit!

Hi Salve, Beth here of Adarna Food & Culture. Thanks so much for writing about your experience at Adarna. I think I remember your visit. We really want to make guests feel at home at the resto. (Nice rin if the resto can contribute to people feeling good about our rich culture and cuisine.) Just to note that we used Adarna because the bird is orig Pinoy & magical. Ulit, maraming salamat! Please approach me, or my partner, Chef Giney when you come again.
Salve: Hi, Beth. We really had a good time dining in your restaurant. I’ll come back to try the other dishes and take more pictures! I’ll bring along some friends.
Thanks also for coming here.

Di bale, next time.

Dios ko po. I will never go back to that resto.Kahit balikbayan ako and dollar earner, the food are pricey for the serving size. So disappointing that the serving size is very very small.( i’m used to American Serving) he he he. That’s it. I do not recommend this restaurant.

NOT GOING BACK TO THIS PLACE.
First time we went, may event yata at nagchikahan na kami, wala pang waiters so we left na lang.
Ilang follow up na, wala pa.
Naka limang follow up na kami ata.
At another 5 years ang tinagal namin doon.
