Looking Forward To

Enero 8, 2008
I watched some of the film entries in the recently concluded Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). What really caught my attention was the trailer of the full-length animated film Urduja that was being shown before the featured film. Here’s a glimpse to this upcoming movie:
According to legends, “Urduja” is a 14th century warrior-princess who ruled the Kingdom of Tawalisi in Pangasinan. She was famous for leading a group of woman warriors who were skilled fighters and equestrian. Historical reference to Princess Urduja can be found in the travel account of Ibn Battuta, a Muslim traveler from Morocco. He stopped by Tawalisi on his way to China and had known Princess Urduja.
Urduja will be in theaters some time this year. I will definitely see this one.

Secret Treasures

Nobyembre 23, 2007

I have secret treasures
I keep them in a box that’s
Painted in gold and
Speckled with silver dust
And hides it under my bed.

One corner holds a tale of box-of-treasure.jpg
An enchanting child
Who’s cheeks are red as cherries
With eyes that sparkle like stars
And laughter that echoes through the air.

Engraved at the center
is fairy godmother’s heart-
Keeper of the the key to a magical past
Of monster-slaying and gallant heroes,
And chronicles of faraway lands.

I have secret treasures
I keep them in a gold and silver box
Guarded with enchantments of joy and love
It’s hidden safely under my bed
Alas! But only you, now holds the key.

What Yki Wants for Christmas

Disyembre 13, 2006

yki in the boxKids never fail to amaze and surprise me. Just this morning my nephew was wondering if we (everyone in the family) could find him a girlfriend. He’s barely 5 but it seems he’s ready for a relationship! He also wants to receive a sword, a real one, and a musketeer suit from Santa Claus.

According to his mom, Yki’s been watching Walt Disney’s version of The Three Musketeers (with Mickey, Donald and Goofy as the main characters) almost everyday. Suddenly, he forgot his ultimate hero Spiderman and set aside his favorite Spiderman costume. He wishes to change the movie’s title, too–from “The Three Musketeers” to “The Four Musketeers.”

This is what I have deduced from his Christmas wishes: The sword and suit will enable him to become part of the movie (ha-ha!), then there’d be four musketeers. And he wants a girlfriend so he’d be able to kiss the girl at the end of the movie like Mickey and Donald.

Nice thinking, Yki! Very imaginative. Genius ka talaga sa mga bagay na `to! Mana ka kay… 😉
