Hay, Inday

Setyembre 17, 2007

Inday: Inay, intransigence is just normal for us juveniles.

Nanay: Day, anong nakain mo? I’m perturbed by your words.

Inday: Nay, ala namang gantihan…

  • “Listening to the nonsense talk about someone’s life is a pathetic way of entertainment. It doesn’t contribute to the good of society. I hate character assassins!”

  • “Sometimes, people choose to leave not because of selfish reasons but because they just know that things will get worse if they stay. Leaving can be a tough act, & it’s harder when people can’t understand you for doing so…”

  • “There are tulips in the park, but nothing compares to our two lips meeting in the dark.” ~pamatay lines ni Dodong kay Inday.

  • “It’s always painful to know that someone is irrevocably gone & all that’s left are memories of beautiful days gone by. Sometimes it boggles my mind why people fall in love, then say goodbye; they can’t belong forever when at first they can never seem to part…” ~si Inday, nagre-reminsice kay Dudong.

  • “The consistency was fine. But you see, it seems that the increased amount of sodium chloride affected the taste drastically & those actions are irreversible. I do apologize.”

  • “I stay awake in the coldness of the darkened sky contemplating why, for some reasons, has my emptiness made itself manifest, extending to that niche where I was given life & growth, that because of austerity I was made separated from…” ~Inday, hindi makatulog dahil naho-homesick.

  • “Stop that raucus. You menacing lads should be in slumber right now. One more hubbub from you and I’ll send you off your domicile.”

  • “Don’t limit my capacity in the four corners of this luxurious abode. Expose me to the real challenges of the outside world. I want to grow as an individual with dynamic experiences.” ~Inday, nagrereklamo dahil ayaw isama sa Enchanted Kingdom.

  • “Bloody hell! What the fuck did just land on my cutie top? I mean I’ve spent all day just to make myself look fabulous. I think I have to remove this eewy thing in a whip wham of time!”

  • “Shit, Inday! Can you shut up? You’ve grown to become an all-knowing bitch!!!”

This is one of the most obvious qualities of the most beloved people. If you cannot be generous financially, at least be generous with your words.”

  • “Morons! I was never raised by my mom to be a coquette! I’m nurtured with such dignity, respect & morality! Even poverty can’t make me do such scandalous act. Sexy is from within. I don’t rely on aesthetic products & on skimpy & scantily clad outfits. So pathetic! -banat ni Inday nang alukin sya mag-pose sa FHM.

  • I was really glad that justice prevailed. Goodness outwits evilness. At last, the judges saw the real art of cheerdancing! Congratulations to the UP Pep Squad!

  • Amo: Hoy, Inday! Ba’t sunog ang sinaing?

Inday: Heavy fire that exerted by the stimulus affect the best conductor of heat which is the steel, causing the oriza sativa, which is the scientific name of rice, to change its state of color, smell as well as taste.

  • Amo: In other words you didn’t apply your knowledge about heat conductors & left the rice to burn! Abi nimo nosebleed ko noh? Lain na ko kan bah. Ga-study na ko. Bring it on. Beyotch!

Amo: So Inday, tell me, how do you accept the fact that you are just a mere chambermaid in this extravagant mansion?

Inday: Una camarera? Eres tan pathetic.

Amo: (hinimatay)

  • Consul: Why do you wanna go to the USA?

Amo: To travel to visit friends & fly the airplane.

Consul: Denied!

Consul: And you?

Inday: For life is a never-ending pursuit of material & social satisfaction that I tender my great intent of actualizing a transpacific journey to the land of milk & honey. An affable sanctuary where dreams become reality and a perfect habitat where souls like mine can reach the pedestal of freedom.

  • Inday: I pity you for you have degraded your very own pride & dignity by resorting to this despicable behavior just for wealth. And I hope that one day you’ll realize that you should not use humans as means of your ends. As what the great philosopher Kant uttered, ‘treat as an end in himself.’

Holdaper: Shut up, `coz if you don’t, the bullet in this gun will rest upon your empty head!”

  • In a market one morning, a guy fainted…

Vendee: Help!

Inday: Move!I’m Maria Batungbacal, a trained first aider. May I help?

Vendee: Yes, you may.

Inday: Help! You lady in black, please activate medical assistance or call an ambulance & report back to me as I assess bthe victim.

Malupit talaga si Inday. Nag-training sa Red Cross!

  • Jeepney Driver: Hoy!

Inday: I am currently enrolled in a 2-year vocational course in an academic institution. Therefore, I am a student, and by this fact I am entitled to have the inalienable right to avail of a certain discount on my jeepney fare. This is why I provided a payment less than what you expected because that is according to the law, as stated in the fare matrix.

Driver: Ahh…

Naku!

  • “She thinks that she’s the only homosapien that can utter such euphonic statements? She might want to think again!”

Caleruega (Philippines) Weekend

Hunyo 7, 2007

If you want to spend some quiet moments, refresh your mind, feel close to nature and God, Caleruega is the perfect place to go; located in Brgy. Kaylayaw, Batulao, Nasugbu Batangas. As described in the flyer given to visitors at the gate, Caleruga is a house (place) of prayer and renewal. It is equipped with facilities for activities like retreats, recollections, prayer and renewal workshops, and other religious and environmental-related assemblies. But you can also go for a day’s visit. Like what I did last weekend. For 30 pesos entrance fee, you can enjoy the breathtaking views, clear your mind and find peace.

Three Fruitful Saturdays

Mayo 7, 2007

It’s sad that the¬†Saturdays of sharing ideas,¬†discussions¬†and¬†being critiques¬†each other’s works have ended last April 28. I joined the Mainstream Fiction Writing Workshop¬†conducted by JL Cai√Īa of¬†the chips. The workshop was held for three Saturdays in a seminar tent in Quezon City. Although we usually started the lessons late than the what’s in the schedule, everything was worth it! I learned a lot from the lectures and¬†writing exercises (hmm, I think I owe JL one activity pa.¬†Haven’t submitted it¬†yet).¬†Hopefully I’d be able to finish the stories I’ve been working on for several months already.¬†

Aside from the learning experience, I also gained new friends. I won’t ever forget Ate Pinky who gave me free rides to QC city hall after¬†each workshop because I’m afraid to cross the street from the seminar tent. Thanks, Ate Pinky! You can always buzz me if you want more pocketbooks. ūüėȬ† And Zoe, the lady who¬†looks like Michiko Yamamoto (according to JL and I have to agree!) screenwriter of the movies Magnifico and Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros. She hates to be interrupted when she’s talking. Then, there’s Kim who would like to create her own anim√© masterpiece. And she loves Neil Gaiman.¬†ArJ was the only guy in the workshop. I wasn’t able to talk to him very much, though. But I will never forget the look on his face when we he was forced to bring get¬† the Tagalog romance pocketbook because JL asked us to read one and analyze it.

It’s just¬†been a week since our last day and I’m missing their company already. I miss the exchange of ideas, their suggestions on how to develop my story, the tuksuhan, the laughter… everything. I’ll definitely see you guys again one of these days. ūüôā

Forgotten Passion

Enero 26, 2007

escaflowneI was sorting my things out last night, tidying up my stuff since my family’s moving to a new house this weekend, and found some old art works I did several years ago. I felt sad seeing some of them are almost ruined, the colors are fading. I was able to salvage a few of them, though, and took pictures.

no one’s face

There was a time when I got so obsessed with sketching faces. Just the face, not the whole head. The finished piece usually looks like these–with a sad expression. Maybe I was lonely at that time.

I used to paint and do sketches. I did dream of creating my own masterpieces in the past. Yet, in the course of my life, I’ve put it aside and forgotten the passion. Or maybe, the passion has died.

landscape Landscape is one of my favorite themes. I painted this piece from a picture I saw.

belle & the beast Once in my life, I liked Beauty and the Beast so much, hence this painting. And I got addicted to anim√© also ūüôā (inspiration of the picture at the beginning of this article are the main characters in Vision of Escaflowne)

Now, I’m not sure anymore if I’d be able to do anything similar to these works again. The artist hand has turned numb. It doesn’t recognize the brushes and pens it used to love so much. Her eyes have become mere ordinary spectator. ūüė¶

New-found Hobby

Enero 19, 2007

PapiHaving retired from work in May last year, my father found a new hobby. A lover of the arts, he used to paint and worked as an illustrator for comics/magazine when he was younger. Now, he has discovered a new art through another medium–not with brushes and watercolors, but through the lens of his beloved camera, which he brings¬†anywhere he goes.¬† He has become a familiar sight around¬†the neighborhood in our hometown, taking picture of anything; sometimes from dusk till dawn. I’d like to share some of the photos he had taken. His subjects are mostly nature.

Mystery Unlocked

Mayo 19, 2006

da-vinci-code-movie-poster.jpgAfter much controversy, the screen adaptation of Dan Brown‚Äôs best-seller, The Da Vinci Code is in theaters now. The film opens with the bizarre murder of Louvre curator Jacques Sauniere, who, in his dying moments managed to leave behind a number of clues and messages hidden in the artworks of Leonardo Da Vinci. The French police invites Harvard symbology professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) to decipher the code they found near the dead body. Langdon concedes not knowing that he has already been considered a prime suspect. With the help of Sauniere‚Äôs granddaughter Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou, Amelie and A Very Long Engagement), Langdon is able to escape the police only to be trapped in a more intricate labyrinth. Soon they find themselves on the run from policeman Bezu Fache (Jean Reno), the albino monk Silas (Paul Bettany), and Archbishop Aringarosa (Alfred Molina). Robert and Sophie proceed to Robert‚Äôs colleague Sir Leigh Teabing to ask for his help to unravel a secret that–according to Sir Leigh–had been kept from humanity for centuries.
